Article: A
Little Color Goes A Long Way |
| |
Painting a room is one of the quickest and
easiest ways of making your new house into a home. Yet choosing colors
isn't always an easy job. Bold, interesting color adds character to a
room, but be careful not to overdo it. Here are some simple tips to keep
in mind when choosing colors for your new home:
+ Plan ahead:
Think about the colors of your furniture (both furniture you have, and
furniture you'd plan to buy in the future), the colors of adjoining rooms,
and the rugs of flooring you plan to have in the room. All these elements
work together to give space life and feeling. Be sure to think ahead to
the end of your project to make sure that you'll be happy with your color
choice months or years down the road.
+ Bring it
home: Bring the color samples (or even a small can) home and
test it out. Remember, a whole wall full of color can look much different
than a 1x2" chip. Look at the color at different times of day, and
next to other key elements in your home.
· Choosing the Right Paint: Color isn't everything. If you're painting a
high traffic area, have children, or are may have kids in the future,
consider getting 'easy-clean' paint with a semi-gloss finish.
+ Get Advice:
If you're unsure, get advice. Your local paint store is a great place to
start. Some have take-home color-guides and on-line tools, in addition to
helpful local staff.
+ Trust
Yourself: Advice is always helpful, but it's your home. Trust
yourself and your family. After all, you'll need to live with your choices
for years to come. |
